Your API key is encrypted before it is written to local storage, so the stored database value is ciphertext rather than plain text. In short: the saved key on disk is encrypted at rest. Growth Helper decrypts it only when needed to call Torn for honor and merit tracking. Your key is not used for unrelated actions, external sharing, or any other purpose outside this tool's tracking features.
